back now live on msnbc. the director of national intelligence james clapper and fbi director james comey briefed the house intelligence committee this morning on russia s hacking activity in this country. we bring in congressman joaquin castro, a member of the house intelligence committee. congressman castro thank you for being here. i want to get your take thanks for having me. from this morning s briefing. there s been significant frustration, a lot of it directed at the intelligence community but specifically director comey and his handling in the waning months of the election of the email investigation. what can you tell us about what happened behind closed doors? obviously it was a very informative presentation. i think there is both republican and democratic concern about getting to the bottom of what happened with the russian hacking, making sure that we go back and figure out what went wrong. what specifically needs resolution would you say? well, i think a whole
early 2016, so the question they had inside the transition is if it began in late 2015, early 2016, how is there this motive to help donald trump get elected president? now, there is an acknowledgment inside the transition after this meeting because they say they did receive new information at this meeting they did not have before that there was an intent through this hacking activity to harm and damage hillary clinton s candidacy. they are not disputing that according to the senior transition official, but they still dispute this notion that vladimir putin, the kremlin, and the russians were involved in hacking to get donald trump elected. they say if you look at the evidence there was no hacking of election tallies and so forth but there is an acknowledgment inside this transition team that there was an intent to harm hillary clinton s candidacy. jim acosta outside trump tower in new york city, thank you. let s get more on all of this. former republican congressman jack kingston, s
that russia indeed and vladimir putin was behind the hacking in the election season. some of the things they are looking at, officials are telling us, are, in fact, those digital fingerprints. even able to track, perhaps, the key boards that were used with the alphabet in russia to engage in this hacking activity and those hacking tools are said to be so sophisticated, they mimic the kinds that the national security agency has. that s a part of the u.s. government engages in cyberactivity. not the common run of the mill activity the u.s. believes. and finally that the dispersal, the publication of the hacked information was so widespread and such a large volume that vladimir putin would have been the only person with the authority to authorize that kind of activity. these are some of the
