GUJRAT: A total of 22 candidates have filed their nomination papers with the returning officer to contest the by-poll in PP-51 Wazirabad (Gujranwala district) out of which at least six are vying for the PML-N ticket.
Moreover, 16 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the by-poll in NA-75 Daska (Sialkot) that include two daughters of the late PML-N MNA Syed Iftikharul Hassan Shah whose demise left the seat vacant.
Gujranwala Divisional Election Commissioner Majid Sharif Dogar, who is also the Gujranwala district returning officer, told Dawn that the lists of final candidates for both the by-polls had been displayed by the respective returning officers on Thursday.

The year 2020 would always be remembered as the year of lockdown and deaths with as many as 3,921 people succumbing to the pandemic in the province since the outbreak in March.
The health department confirmed that at least 136,147 people in total were inflicted with the virus out of which 89.81% individuals defeated the contagion and recovered.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Spokesman for the Punjab Health Department Syed Hammad Raza claimed that the government provided the best facilities to the patients down with the virus.
