Gujarat Assembly Elections Crucial For BJP: The Assembly elections in Gujarat will take place soon and the entire nation is focused on these polls. The Centre and the BJP leadership is aiming a record majority while Congress and AAP are working hard to dethrone BJP from power.
Though the BJP will form the next government in Gujarat after a sixth straight victory in the state, the results came as a blow to the party with six of its ministers and the Speaker of the Assembly, Ramanlal Vora, losing to the Congress.
As the BJP retained Gujarat, its bickering ally, the Shiv Sena, on Monday said it was the Rahul Gandhi-led Congress which had emerged as the real winner in the election.
Although the BJP retained power in Gujarat, it lost the Unjha assembly constituency in Mehsana district, which includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi s hometown Vadnagar, to Congress.
Backward class leader Alpesh Thakor, who had joined the Congress just ahead of the Gujarat Assembly polls, on Monday scored his maiden election victory from Radhanpur seat, defeating his closest BJP rival by 15,000 votes.
