Western Cape close to 1 million vaccinations in its ninth week
By Staff Reporter
Cape Town - The Western Cape is on track to reach 1 million vaccinations this week.
The provincial health department said at the weekend that its vaccination programme was now in its ninth week, and the weekly target of 150 000 vaccinations had been exceeded for the second week in a row.
“As at Friday, for the week, 158 539 vaccinations were administered as part of the national programme, bringing the total number of people in the province having received at least one dose of the two-dose Pfizer vaccine, or the one-dose J&J vaccine for the health workers and educators, to 960 594,” the department said.

CAPE TOWN – From Monday the Western Cape will have 36 public and 11 private vaccination sites operating.
The province launched its phase 2 vaccination programme with only eight vaccination sites and scaled up to 19 vaccination sites, in addition to seven private sites at Clicks stores, bringing the combined vaccination sites to 26 during the first week.
The Western Cape health department says scheduling of residents to receive their vaccine was one of the biggest challenges it faced and this resulted in many residents and health-care workers who have registered not receiving their second SMS notifying them of their vaccination date, time and venue.

Cape Town - As of today there are 53 Covid-19 vaccine sites operational in the Western Cape.
The Western Cape government last week said that the number of vaccination sites in the province will increase to 53 as of Monday, 24 May 2021, with more to come.
This is part of the province’s scale-up approach where they will bring more sites online regularly, to significantly increase the number of vaccinations administered daily.
