Western Cape vaccination sites boosted to 53

Cape Town â The number of vaccination sites in the Western Cape will increase to 53 as of Monday, with more to come.
ââThis is part of our scale-up approach where we will bring more sites online regularly, as we significantly increase the number of vaccinations administered daily,ââ Premier Alan Winde said on Saturday.
The provinceâs Department of Health will bring 23 more public vaccination sites online, bringing the total of public vaccination sites to 42. The private sector will have 11 sites operational as of Monday, with Mediclinic bringing online four additional sites.

Cape Town – Queues could be seen snaking on Wednesday as healthcare workers and those 60 years and older stood in line to receive their vaccination at Karl Bremer Hospital in Cape Town.
African News Agency (ANA), visited the hospital bustling with anxious people waiting to get their jab.
While queues were long healthcare workers ensured everything went smoothly as all Covid-19 protocols were followed.
Healthcare workers said since the Western Cape government launched its phase 2 of the vaccination plan on Tuesday they have been extremely busy.
“We have people as far as the Southern Suburbs coming this way. While it is a long way for them to travel, we do not turn anyone away. People have been queuing since 6am,” a healthcare worker told ANA.

CAPE TOWN - Eighteen COVID-19 vaccination sites were now operational in the City of Cape Town metro.
To kickstart the second phase of the country s vaccination programme on Monday, eight sites were launched, of which two were dedicated to vaccinating healthcare workers only.
The Western Cape Government has, as of yesterday, brought online 10 additional vaccination sites as part of the second phase of the vaccination programme. #LetsDoThis
The number is up from the roughly 11,000 vaccines administered on 17 May.
The government had brought 100 inoculation sites online by the end of 18 May, according to health department director-general Dr Anban Pillay. More private vaccination sites will come online in the next few days, he said.
Meanwhile, some provinces released their own vaccination figures.
On 17 and 18 May, the Eastern Cape injected more than 7,000 healthcare workers and people over the age of 60, according to health MEC Nomakhosazana Meth. She spoke on Wednesday while visiting Settler’s Hospital in Makhanda to inspect its vaccination sites.
The province had 23 sites active on 19 May and almost 200,000 registrations, she said. She gave an assurance that the province had all the fridges and cold boxes it needed to maintain the cold chain.
