How can you not be inspired by gestures of kindness, especially when they meet up with moments of synchronicity those moments when everything seemingly flows in divine order. These moments make good stories the kind that feel so good you just wanna pass ’em on.
I recently caught wind of such a story and met up with Ethan Hoinacki to catch the finer details. Many know Ethan as the owner of Guest House Coffee & Pastries in downtown Lincoln, IL. Together with his family, he is also a member of Lincoln Christian Church.
As the story goes, Ethan was on his way home after a meeting one evening when he was suddenly prompted to stop at Steak ’n Shake to surprise his wife with a milkshake. “It’s so out of the ordinary for me to do that,” said Ethan. Yet, providence was in the making.

Like most of us, I enjoy treats, and when I think about treats, I think of baked goods. Of course, some of the best baked goods come from old-fashioned bakeries. Here in Illinois, we have some amazing bakeries. Some have been around for many years, while others are new but equally wonderful. Here are the Illinois bakeries I have come to love and some of the wonderful treats I have sampled during my visits!
1. Jubeltâs Bakery And Restaurant, Litchfield
Jubeltâs is my favorite bakery of all time! They opened their first bakery in 1929, then in 1959, they opened their only remaining bakery in Litchfield. While they offer cakes, cookies and treats, and homemade breads, the nutty butter is my favorite bakery product! Jubeltâs also offers wonderful meals and has the historic tidbit of being located off Route 66!
