Video. Joseph i hope you had a great weekend. This should be a fun class. Today, we are going to talk about the spanishamerican war. But before we get into that i want to recap a few things we did in our last class. Specifically, lets talk a little bit about the imperialism that developed in the late 19th century. Blake, do you have anything you can contribute in this regard . Blake sure. We had we were imperialistic and we thought that going sorry. One of our reasons to go were i guess humanitarian. We tried to help our little Brown Brothers down there, to try and make them more american because we felt it was superior. Joseph it is really an ethnocentrism. Blake yeah. Joseph taylor, do you have anything to add to that . Taylor the one thing that stood out the most to me was the economic aspect because the u. S. Had a lot of territorial interests in cuba and a lot of americans owned sugar plantations and they wanted to protect their citizens and investments down there. But in the u. S

CSPAN3 VA Secretary Wilkie Testifies Before The Senate On The 2021 Budget Request July 12, 2024

Before we proceed to todays hearing id like to take a moment to recognize last monday was memorial day. It was a different memorial day for me and other americans than normal and it was more difficult for us to gather together. But last monday gave us an opportunity, an opportunity that we should take every day to pause and remember the brave americans who gave their lives in defense of our country. And we honor the sacrifices they made to keep us free. While let me start by saying that the veterans we honored on memorial day, they served our country and that peaceful protests are a demonstration of the freedom our veterans served to safeguard and protect. And while we reject the defacing of our National Monuments i would take another moment to express my gratitude the National Park service, its employees and volunteers who quickly restored our memorials. All of them but especially those that recognize the service of our men and women particularly the world war ii memorial. I know that

CSPAN U S Senate Senators On How Coronavirus Will Impact Memorial Day July 13, 2024

Less important. Just like every year, this memorial day, lets commemorate the Service Members and families who have sacrificed in defense of our freedom. The freedoms we cherish but are so often taken for granted did not come without a price. For generations, american patriots have secured our blessings of liberty by willingly laying down their lives in defense of our great nation. Every fallen soldier leaves behind a grieving parent, child, sibling, spouse, or friend. These family members and friends never forget that knock at the door, the sound of taps, the loud thunder of the 21gun salute or the touch of a folded flag once laid on a casket. As a combat veteran, i know that the men and women in uniform who served bravely alongside the fallen never forget either. I think of iowans like iraq war veteran Richard Myles whose picture i proudly display on my desk. Iowa Army National guardsman brent maher, james carney whose family are dear friends, just 22 years old, killed in afghanistan
