Customers will have to pay 5 per cent GST on pre-packed, labelled food items like atta, paneer and curd, besides hospital rooms with rent above Rs 5,000 from Monday with the GST Council's decision coming into force.
New GST rates: The CBIC said the supply of pre-packed atta meant for retail sale to the ultimate consumer of 25 Kg shall be liable to GST. However, supply of such a 30-kg pack thereof shall be exempt from levy of GST.
Bajaj further said that the rise in GST collection is on account of multiple factors, like increased economic activity post-Covid, and better compliance, besides inflation.
Come July 18, 18 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be applicable on bank cheque book/loose leaf cheques and 12 per cent on maps, atlas, and globes.
