This year we have first and second grade. We are going to expand to third, forth, and fifth grade next year bring them out and if you have middle school kids, we are starting a team for middle school. You know why . Why . Because we are . History as a frontier town, and outfitter for travelers setting out on the santa fe trail. It was november 12, 1927 when the pioneer mother sculpture was dedicated in Penn Valley Park. It not only celebrates kansas citys pioneer history, but also as a tribute to those who suffered great hardship and loss while traveling across the plains and search of a better life. In her new book, pioneer mother monuments constructing cultural identity, historian Cynthia Prescott walks through more than a century of recognition and rediscovering a Pioneer Monuments erected across the nation, including those in the kansas city region. We are honored to have her here today to discuss her research. Dr. Prescott is an associate professor of history at the university of north dakota. Her research focuses on gender and the american west. Specifically intersections of gender, social class, and historical memory. Look, we simply like to compete not dollar for dollar but with innovation as you mentioned and i think, in many cases, the smarter way to compete. Money is one angle and its an important one but if you are not the most wellcapitalized player in any space that are operating and you have to find alternatives to compete. So im here in San Francisco, here in the bay area, and just really pleased to be at city college. How is that climb going . Youve been here two years. Give us an assessment what was youve been able to see and maybe fix if it needs to be fixed at city college. No, well first of all its just been the time of my life. Personally, the people of city college are great. We have a great board, great faculty, great staff. That college has been there since 1935. Its graduated 35,000 alumni. Its had a great reputation. So in the last couple of years, weve set our goals on three major things. Number one, students. We need to be student centered to make sure our students, most of whom are were aajority minority campus college. Need to graduate and move forward with their lives.
