Beachbreaks can be a lot like gambling – you roll the dice, pray for the best. And longtime local charger Roger Ramirez went all in on Tuesday at Puerto Escondido although this time, the house won. (Though as evidenced at the end of the vid, he escaped relatively unscathed.)
In case you’ve been sorely out of the loop, Puerto’s been pumping for quite a while. Right now, there’s a series of swells set to hit the Mainland Mex sandbottom gladiator pit – the largest of which is slated to peak on Friday. It hasn’t been all-time although there have been some gems but there’s some guaranteed size (and more heroics, like the above from Ramirez) in store. A shoulder injury to fullback Ratu Jilivecevece has prompted Kaiviti Silktails coach Wes Naiqama to tinker with his attacking spine for the Round Five clash with Glebe Dirty Reds at Mascot Oval on Saturday.
Jilivecevece could be sidelined for a month after injuring his shoulder in the 30-26 loss to Windsor Wolves last weekend, which brings in 2021 season newcomer Ropate Tobe to the No.1 jersey while captain Penioni Tagituimua has shifted from hooker to halfback.
“Ratu’s been our fullback for both our games so far,” Naiqama said.
“He got the injury in the second half, so it was pretty courageous of him to continue on.
