When we think of the Senate filibuster, we think of Mr. Smith going to Washington, saving struggling homeowners from the evil bankers, stealing homes from hardworking homeowners, widows and orphans. Mr. Smith struggled, on the verge of collapse, turning public opinion to save homeowners from predatory lending institutions. Initially the senate cared more about the bankers political contributions than their struggling constituents.
Today a filibuster is a political strategy in which a senator “speaks,” or threatens to speak for hours, to delay efforts to vote for a bill. The tactic takes advantage of Senate rules that say a senator, once recognized, may speak on an issue without being impeded by anyone. LAKELAND The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to track down a white male who broke into a pre-kindergarten classroom at Griffin Elementary School and did at least $1,500 in damage to the building, including windows and doors.
The Sheriff s Office said that on March 5 at 8:20 p.m., the suspect burglarized a Pre-K classroom portable at the school in unincorporated Lakeland. When he broke into the classroom, he caused substantial damage to the building.
The suspect is a white male, possibly in his 30s, with short brown hair. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt with some sort of graphic on the front, black shorts with an orange stripe on the pant, and black and white Nike sneakers.

LAKELAND, FL A 66-year-old Lakeland man was arrested Sunday afternoon by the Polk County Sheriff s Office for a domestic violence charge of battery on a person over the age of 65, according to a law enforcement news release.
The victim told deputies that Jamie Collazo Gonzalez grabbed her by the neck and pushed her, authorities said. The victim was not injured.
The suspect told deputies that he is employed by Griffin Elementary School in Lakeland as a custodian.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A custodian at a Lakeland elementary school is accused of grabbing a woman by her neck during a domestic dispute, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
News 6 is not naming the suspect in order to protect the identity of the victim.
