A grant totaling $4.9 million would help the Burnet school district address the impact of COVID-19 on students and education. The district is submitting an application for the money, which is available from the U.S. Department of Education’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund.

When the pits had cooled at the High School BBQ state cook-off April 23-24, the Bulldog FFA BBQ team had a share of the grand championship.
“It’s a highlight, that’s for sure,” said Brandon Evans, the Burnet High School agriculture science teacher. “There’s a lot of highlights we’ve had here at this ag chapter. We’ve had a state FFA president. We’ve had animals win grand champion at major stock shows. I would say this is up there with those as a highlight.”

Transitioning from regionals in San Angelo’s high plains to state in Nacogdoches’ piney woods, the Burnet High School FFA and 4-H wildlife teams took the landscape changes in stride and finished in the top 5 on Tuesday, April 20.
“It’s a big difference from San Angelo to the state contest,” said Burnet High School agri-science teacher Shane Wigington. “It’s a totally different type of environment, but the kids, they just went to work and did a great job.”
