MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network): The Philippines saw a slight rise in ranking in an international corruption index, inching up a notch to 116th among 180 countries but retained low scores in perception of corruption in government.
16 journalists and media workers lost their lives in the Asia Pacific region in 2022, the second highest rate of killings globally, the International Federation of Journalists’ (IFJ) annual Killed List has found. The IFJ strongly condemns the ongoing violence and danger faced by media workers in the region and calls for increased action to end impunity for crimes against journalists.
"As it is in all countries, the promotion and protection of human rights is a never-ending job. We will fix what needs fixing and improve what needs improving,"Â Remulla told the UN Human Rights Committee.
