Jefferson County Circuit Judge Alaric May on Tuesday sentenced 25-year-old Xavier Marqise Thompson to life in prison with the possibility of parole. A jury in March convicted Thompson of felony murder in the killing of 20-year-old Zachariah Taylor Music.

Police on Monday announced the arrest of 25-year-old Jamarian Carpenter. He is charged in the March 20 slaying of Devarta Dedre Thomas.Carpenter is charged with capital murder because authorities believe Thomas was inside of a vehicle when he was fatally shot.

A third suspect has been charged in the 2019 fatal shooting of a UAB student outside the Riverchase Galleria.
A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Michael Jaran Brown, 21, with murder. He is charged in the June 26 killing of Zachariah Taylor Music in the mall’s North Parking deck.
Previously charged and indicted in Music’s death are Dannarious De Shon Washington, 21, and Michael Jabari Akamune, 22. Washington is charged with capital murder, and Akamune is charged with murder.
Hoover police and firefighters responded about 1:30 p.m. that Wednesday to the fifth floor of the North Parking Deck. When they arrived, they found Music inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:39 p.m.
