TUES: Vaccine Supply Outstrips Demand, State Dems Roll Out Same Day Voting Registration, + More

By Susan Montoya Bryan, Associated Press Vaccine supplies have eclipsed demand in New Mexico even as the state makes a hard push toward meeting a key vaccination goal Thursday. Health officials have confirmed to The Associated Press that New Mexico s inventory includes nearly 493,000 doses that are being stored in freezers around the state. Expiration dates range from this week through September. The state also has donated 372,600 doses of its undelivered allocation back to the federal government. That includes ordering only a minimal number each week to cover requests from providers.

Military veteran Greg Zanetti runs for New Mexico governor

Associated Press SANTA FE – Investment adviser and West Point graduate Greg Zanetti of Albuquerque says he’ll seek the Republican nomination for governor of New Mexico in next year’s election. In a news release Monday, Zanetti said he wants to “restore some dignity and principled leadership to the governor’s office.” Zanetti said he wants to work with local officials to reduce crime rates and improve schools, though he did not provide detailed proposals. Michelle Lujan Grisham. A retired brigadier general in the Army, Zanetti said he would bring a different leadership style to the Governor’s Office and criticized Lujan Grisham’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, claiming the governor “overreacted” to the virus by imposing broad business restrictions. ...................... “I think we all want a better New Mexico. What we have now isn’t working,” Zanetti said Monday. While an incumbent governor has not lost a reelection bid in over 26 years, Zanetti said he felt compelled to run against Lujan Grisham – if he can win the GOP nomination in June 2022.
