Audrey Pitcher and her husband Phil have owned The Rose and Thistle on Dalhousie Street in downtown Brantford for almost six years.
“It’s a friendly pub, we all know each other,” Pitcher said. “It’s a lot like (the television sitcom) Cheers, they come in and have a good time.”

Premier Doug Ford’s announcement of a provincewide COVID-19 lockdown starting on Boxing Day will have devastating consequences for many small business owners.
“That will take away our New Year’s Eve, which is usually our busiest day of the year,” said Andrea Legacey, chef/owner of Juniper Dining Co. in Paris. “It’s that big day that gets us through to Valentine’s Day, which gets us through to March and April when the weather starts to get nicer.”
