Sinead Quinn has not paid a single penny of her £17,000 fine for opening her Quinn Blakey Hairdressing salon illegally during lockdown. Pic: PA KIRKLEES Council has defended its decision to reject lockdown-defying salon Quinn Blakey Hairdressing s Covid grant application, and also said no fines have been paid so far. The salon in Bradford Road, Oakenshaw, run by its Covid-denying conspiracy theorist owner Sinead Quinn, applied for a Covid support grant after the current lockdown forced salons to close at the start of January. However, Kirklees Council rejected the application saying the salon was not eligible for a grant as it had failed to comply with national restrictions and there is currently an injunction in place on the business.
Warning issued to businesses thinking of defying lockdown for Great Reopening A WARNING has been issued to businesses thinking of defying lockdown this weekend for the so-called Great Reopening on Saturday. The movement has gained some traction on social media, with Oakenshaw hairdresser Sinead Quinn indicating she may open her business, Quinn Blakey Hairdressing, on Saturday, despite racking up £17,000 in Fixed Penalty Notices from previous lockdown breaches. West Yorkshire Prepared, which brings together different agencies to help the region prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and major incidents, issued a statement from its co-chairs this afternoon strongly urging businesses not to take part.
The grant aims to help homeowners reduce the risk and extent of flood damage in the future. The grant, which is worth up to £5,000, can be used to put in place measures inside or outside the property that will reduce the risk of flooding.
Councillor Paul Davies, Cabinet Member for Culture and Greener Kirklees said: “Kirklees is on heightened alert for possible flooding, our teams will do everything they can to better protect properties, but in severe weather there is often little we can do to hold back the water from entering homes and businesses. This is why preventative measures are so important.”
Electric charging points spreading across the district to meet Council s ambitions
Electric charging points are spreading across Kirklees as the council pursues its ambitions to be a leader in electric vehicle use.
Sunday, 20th December 2020, 12:00 pm
By 2021 the authority expects to have 21 chargers across the district. A dozen have already been installed with nine more planned across 17 sites.
That will be in addition to 17 existing chargers at 15 different sites following Kirklees Council’s partnership arrangement with hospitals and the hotel industry.
It all forms part of the “strategic taxi and public rapid charging network” on which Kirklees is currently partnered with four neighbouring councils along with West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
