Greater Naples Fire Rescue District promotes interim chief Nolan Sapp

Naples Daily News Interim fire Chief Nolan Sapp was appointed as the new fire chief of the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District on Tuesday.   The district’s fire commissioners opted to abandon the fire chief selection process that had been established so Sapp could be appointed.   Sapp served as interim chief since December when Kingman Schuldt left the chief position via a mutual agreement with the fire board.   Sapp has been in fire service since 1978 and  served with the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District for 19 years. He has been in fire service in Collier County for 30 years, according to the fire district.

Couple rescued by first responders via helicopter after getting lost on Everglades kayak trip Jake Allen, Naples Daily News Video: New York couple rescued via helicopter after getting lost in Florida Everglades Replay Video UP NEXT A New York couple were rescued by local first responders via helicopter Monday night after they got lost while kayaking in the Everglades, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.   The man and woman, both 67, were on vacation and unable to find their way out of the muddy backwaters after taking a wrong turn.   They rented the kayaks in Everglades City and were dropped off at the Turner River Canoe Launch on U.S. 41 East, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hazardous materials scattered along Marco Island after boats wash ashore MARCO ISLAND, Fla. A 25-foot TowboatU.S. towboat and a 42-foot sailboat washed ashore on the north side of Marco Island just after 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8. The towboat had been assisting the disabled sailboat when it capsized and sent two people into the water with five to seven-foot waves, according to David Baer, Police Captain and spokesperson for the Marco Island Police Department. When the towboat capsized, the two people and dog aboard the disabled sailboat left their vessel in a dinghy. Rescue crews with the Marine Emergency Response Team (MERT) call, including the Marco Island Police and Fire Rescue Departments, the Greater Naples Fire-Rescue District, and United States Coast Guard helped respond to the capsized boat.
