Emergency works to stabilise the embankment at Ingatestone on the Great Eastern Main Line will continue this weekend and the rail line is expected to fully reopen to services on Monday 1 February.
On Friday 22 January, the embankment became unstable, causing a dip in the tracks on one of the lines. Network Rail’s engineers have been working around the clock to make repairs in order to reopen the closed line once it is safe to do so. A reduced service will continue running throughout the rest of today (Friday 29 January).
This weekend, a rail replacement service will be in place between Witham and Newbury Park for the Central Line as part of planned engineering works to upgrade the overhead wiring system at Stratford. A rail replacement service will also run between Witham and Shenfield for journeys to / from the Southend Victoria line and TfL stations beyond Shenfield.
EMERGENCY railway works to repair a crumbling embankment will be completed this weekend, with lines set to reopen fully on Monday. Network Rail has been completing repairs to part of the Great Eastern Main Line at Ingatestone since last Friday when part of the embankment became unstable. It caused a dip in the tracks on one of the lines. Engineers have been working around the clock to repair the issue but a reduced timetable has been in place this week. Emergency works to stabilise the embankment at Ingatestone on the Great Eastern Main Line will continue for the rest of the week after further issues were found during remedial work.
The line out of London to Norwich will remain closed, with services operating in both directions on the line towards London. This means the number of services will be reduced on the main line and branch line services to Clacton, Braintree, Southend, Colchester Town and Harwich are also affected.

EMERGENCY railway works to stabilise a crumbling embankment are taking place on the main line through Essex. Network Rail says the works, taking place on the Great Eastern Main Line at Ingatestone, are progressing well and are set to be completed tomorrow. The embankment has become unstable causing a dip in the tracks on the line out of London Liverpool Street towards Norwich. The line from Norwich into London is still open and is being closely monitored, however, a reduced service is running on the main line and branch line services to Clacton, Braintree, Southend, Colchester Town and Harwich are also affected.
