Bike path linking Montréal to Sainte-Catherine fully reopens

The bike path linking Montréal / Saint-Lambert / Champlain Bridge Estacade / Sainte-Catherine is now fully reopened. The announcement was made on Saturday April 10 by the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD). One of the rare places where you can cross the Saint Lawrence River by bike, the approximately 14 km long path is a marked trail reserved for cyclists only. Part of The Great Trail and Route Verte, the path also offers a multitude of spectacular views of the city’s downtown core.. The detour on the Victoria Bridge will be continued this season for users of the bike path. Cyclists must use the safe passage section of the traffic lane because the cycling overpass is still unusable, the SPJD advises. Structural problems detected on the overpass forced its closure last year.

RCGS-funded expeditions take on peaks, rivers and trails across Canada

2021 Expedition of the Year The Society’s 2021 Expedition of the Year, led by Guillaume Moreau, has already embarked on a 200-day, 7,600-kilometre cross-Canada journey. The starting point is located on the ice flow bordering Ellesmere Island, in the far north of Nunavut, while the completion point is near the American border in southern Ontario. The team will ski across the Canadian High Arctic Archipelago, canoe to northern Saskatchewan, then bike about 4,000 kilometres to Point Pelee National Park. Driven by a scientific curiosity, the expedition team will conduct research in forest ecology, with a special focus on the effect of climate change on northern ecosystems. They will also conduct research in human physiology, by documenting how people adapt to long-term exertion under extreme conditions.

Delco beaver statue, historical plaque stolen from Rose Valley

Smallbones/Creative Commons Bronze Beaver is the work of the late Philadelphia artist Albert Laessle. It was installed along with a historical plaque in Rose Valley Borough in 1926 to commemorate The Great Minquas Trail and its role in the fur trade between Native Americans and European settlers. The statue and plaque were stolen some time between Sunday, April 4 and Monday, April 5. Rose Valley Borough is offering a $5,000 reward for the recovery of a beaver statue and historical plaque commemorating a fur trading route that dates back to the 17th century. Pennsylvania State Police said Tuesday the statue and plaque were stolen from the tiny Delaware County town, located less two miles south of Media, some time between 5 p.m. Sunday and 5 p.m. Monday. The display is located near Rose Valley Road and Traymore Lane, close to the Thunderbird Lodge.
