covering the tea party movement back in its early days in 2009. and i think i just cold called him help had posted something on a tea party list about there was a competing tea party group going around the country claiming to be the tea party but it was run by a gop political action committee and a bunch of consultants. and so he had posted all this stuff about what they were doing and how they were raising money from people who thought it was a grassroots operation but then they were spending it on consultants and really expensive continuers at steakhouses and things like that and he was really outraged about it. he posted the stuff on list serve and i saw it and i called him and thought this guy s never going to talk to me from mother jones but actually he wanted to get his story out happened wanted people to know they shouldn t give money to this group because it wasn t going to the grassroots. from there on out, i talked to robin all the time about tea
that empowers the staff to succeed, i know he has done that on the battlefield and done that as a chief military aid to cabinet secretaries but i know he s done as a cabinet secretary. we have great faith that will be done. nothing about our outgoing chief of staff who should have a hold his head high as he exits. many great things happen in the first six months during his ch i think reince priebus will gond down as the most successful and longest-serving rnc chair wheree as chair there was a great dell of money and it improved grassroots operation that allowed the republican party to succeed. i m always a protocol on pecking order kind of gal. i m a very deferential person. i never address the president, even when he was the candidate and as close as we are as boss and employee, i ve never addressed him by his first name. i always address people like general kelly as sir and with reince priebus i was happy to do with what i was asked to do as a member of his staff. i think so much of
the situation we re in, part of that is because we ve allowed state parties for the past decade or so to really, to fall apart. we haven t poured the resources into those parties so that they can go out and do the grassroots operations that are so important to get voters educated, mobilized, and to the polls. and so, he invests into state parties, we will start to take that next step forward in order to rebuild the party. isn t the challenge that we re dealing with gerrymandered seats, and a lot of the congressional seats are going to be difficult unless the democratic party can really get a real, strong grassroots operation and talk to people that often have not heard the message of the democratic party? isn t that the challenge? that is a great challenge, rev. listen, political gerrymandering is probably one of the greatest threats to our democracy right now. you basically have drawn these districts into a way in which
if we are talking about fixing wall street and the excesses there and the corruption on wall street, i would much rather stand with senator warren than any of the people you have named. believe me, senator sanders will be very tough on the shadow banking system and wall street. i don t think there s any doubt about that. are you going to win iowa? well, we have the momentum. clearly, it wasn t long ago there were polls that showed us 20 or 25 points down. now we are three points down. so the movement is clearly in our direction. we are working very hard. we have a strong grassroots operation on the ground with many experienced people, people with experience in the iowa caucuses. we are feeling very good right now. if you win both iowa and new hampshire, what do you do going south? is she vulnerable as the front-running nominee? do you become the front-runner? how do you see the horse race? well, you know, the third contest for the democrats is in nevada. we would then go to nev
he has got to win iowa yesterday, because he is not having any place or any significant effect in new hampshire. so i think he will have a really tough time. the one saving grace i will say his campaign may have is arthel: money. his fund-raising numbers are pretty impressive. arthel: he raised 23 million in the fourth quarter. let me go to you, brad. to chris s point, that is an impressive haul for the fourth quarter. can that, can that money keep carson s campaign on life-support for 31 more days? no. the good news in america, it doesn t matter how much money you have. look at jeb bush s campaign. they had plenty of money. now they re cutting staff and they re moving people into other places, asking for volunteers. it is not how much money you have. it is how you spend it, sure but basically comes down to grassroots operation and getting out the vote. if you don t have boots on the ground to motivate people and especially in caucus state which is not a secret ballot. more like
