closer than they would have expected to. so they ve had to throw a lot of money in the race. the democrats have a better chance of winning the georgia election. the democrats don t have really great candidates in any of these three seats. if they had done a better job recruiting, they probably would have had a better chance of winning any one of the three. we ll have to see how the results play out. should scare republicans that democrats could do a lot of damage next year. it might explain why so many democratic senators from states, for example, where donald trump did well still didn t vote for gorsuch. in other words, four did, but they were confident enough, not so much looking at the election results, thinking that they could go ahead and try. the grass roots activism is stronger on the left than the right. that s interesting in part too,
there is a coalition you have never heard of called protect or care. these men and women have been working literally since obamacare passed through this week and they won. they were making sure that average americans knew what the cost of repeal is going to be. they have been pulling all nighters for years. and i hope this weekend they are all getting some much deserved rest. i love the jeff genes was an unknown, product our care. i think grass roots activism at large definitely, you could say won the week. you did have people all over the country who stood up for themselves and scared the bejesus out of republicans. there were calls that republicans were admitting to getting on katy tur s show, republican congressman admitted 2000 calls against the bill and a handful, 20 or 30 for the bill. that s incredible. when we have wins like this that means we can carry it straight through. the resistance keeps racking up
online. reaching out to new voters, young people and everyone who wants a better, stronger, fairer america. leland: obviously, mrs. clinton who lost the presidential race to donald trump back in november delivered the message via video recording to the group here in atlanta. the video highlighted the party platform the democrats put forward in 2016 and emphasized the need for grass roots activism moving forward. and it s interesting to note, liz, that despite all of that from what we heard from hillary clinton, in many ways it s exactly the opposite of what we are hearing from democratic activists and the folks who are going to be picking the new dnc chair. a lot of them saying the big problem was the platform in 2016, that focused so much on what they call fringe issues. a lot of people saying we re focusing way too much on the 1% issues, transgender rights,
activism, millions for the women s march, people flooding town hall. we don t have one voice, we have many voices. that s where the strength is. we re seeing so much grass roots activism. it s not really who in the country should listen to our elected, it s our electeds should listen to people on the streets and laying out the kind of things we should be for as a party and as a movement. ron, good to talk to you. thank you for being with us, a political veteran. too much time would be taken to explain everything ron has done but let just call him a political veteran. we were just looking at pictures of donald trump who had just landed after speak ting at the cpac conference. there s donald trump walking back to the white house. the two front-runners for the democrats, a progressive fire brand congressman and former labor secretary. we re live in atlanta where the
filibuster, cloture, ability to slow things down, sometimes stop things and we re going to use all these tools. right now chuck schumer, the democratic senate leader is the most united states and he is organizing us, but also saying, you know, we don t need to just grab the reins away from the grass roots. this grass roots activism is not something where we feel like the base is running away from us. we re energized by this. senator tim kaine, thank you very much for being on the show this morning. very good to see you again. still to come, senator rand paul will be our guest. we ll be back.
