Riverbend graduation ceremonies start Saturday

ALTON Graduatiuon ceremonies are returning this year to the area, either in-person or virtually.
The area’s first graduation of the season is planned at Mt. Olive High School on Saturday, May 8. The ceremony is planned in the high school gym at 7 p.m.
Alton High School is planning two separate ceremonies to adhere to social distancing practices.
Ceremonies are planned for 7 p.m. Friday, May 28, and 11 a.m., Saturday, May 29 both at the Alton Public School Stadium. In case of inclement weather, both ceremonies will be moved to the high school.
Three receive Culver scholarships

CANTON, Mo. Three Riverbend students have received scholarships from Culver-Stockton College.
Grant Thuer of Grafton, a student at Jersey Comm High School, was awarded the President Scholarship, a $13,000 per year scholarship for four years.
Ethan Mueller of Jerseyville, a student at Jersey Community High School, was awarded the President Scholarship, a $13,000 per year scholarship for four years.
Lexi Schmidtke of Granite City, a student at Granite City Senior High School, was awarded the President Scholarship, a $13,000 per year scholarship for four years.
The scholarships, awarded based upon academic credentials, are renewable provided that students remain in good academic standing.
