Park Hyatt Tokyo in metropolitan Shinjuku welcomed French Executive Pastry Chef Julien Perrinet in December. After his three-week quarantine hibernation in the luxury hotel which there was “nothing to complain about,” he has been bursting forth with ideas and hatching new creations for the next chapter in his life.

Perrinet is from Brittany in France, but now he feels “more Asian than French.” He knew he wanted to become a pastry chef at the age of 12 when he was cooking with his mother. Taipei, Feb. 22 (CNA) Eight hotels and two spas in Taiwan were among this year s Forbes Travel Guide Star Award Winners, including the Mandarin Oriental, Taipei, the only resort in the country to receive a five-star rating.
The annual awards included over 1,800 hotels, restaurants and spas worldwide ranked five stars, four stars or recommended by Forbes. Inspectors visited the locations on the list both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the awards website.
In Taiwan, Mandarin Oriental, Taipei was the only hotel to receive a five-star rating. This is the fifth consecutive year the hotel has been ranked five stars by Forbes, an achievement no other hotel in Taiwan has accomplished before, the hotel said.

Nearly 2,000 people visited the Art Future contemporary art fair in Taipei on its opening day on Friday, the fair’s organizers said, adding that three art galleries generated more than NT$1 million (US$35,224) in sales on the first day.
The fair held a VIP preview from noon to 8pm at the Grand Hyatt Taipei in Xinyi District (信義), the Art Future executive committee said in a statement.

The third edition of the contemporary art fair Art Future is to open in Taipei on Feb. 5, presenting the works of more than 450 local and international artists, including Japanese artists Moe Nakamura, Ayako Rokkaku and Yayoi Kusama, the organizer said.
Nearly 50 art galleries, alternative spaces or schools are to participate in the event, the Art Future Executive Committee said in a statement.
