Fischer grew up in a conservative denomination in the Midwest that did not allow the ordination of women. And although her upbringing led her to a strong faith, it also discouraged her natural intellectual curiosity.
Doreen Jacius was known for her love for her daughters and her ability to connect with people in a small Connecticut town. Those attributes and more were shared as friends and family of Jacius turned out alongside community members during a Monday night vigil to honor the longtime East Granby resident who was tragically killed in a murder-suicide.
