Amid COVID-19 Pandemic, More Michigan Students Graduate High School Amid COVID-19 Pandemic, More Michigan Students Graduate High School FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Lauren Leeds, 517-242-7919 Lansing – During the COVID-19 pandemic, which closed schools for in-person learning last spring, Michigan high schoolers statewide graduated at a slightly higher rate in 2019-20, according to data released today by the Michigan Center for Educational Performance and Information. The 2019-20 4-year graduation rate improved to 82.07%, a .66 percentage point increase from 2018-19. The year-over-year graduation rate increase from 2017-18 to 2018-19 was .77 percentage points. The dropout rate fell to 7.77%, a .59 percentage point decrease from the 2018-19 rate.

TISD Offers Free Pediatric Asthma Screenings The Texarkana Independent School District has teamed up with Christus St. Michael Health System and Genesis Prime Care will offer free mobile pediatric asthma screening clinics at select campuses during January and February. If your TISD student suffers from seasonal allergies or colds, displays shortness of breath when playing, or has missed several days of school because of cold symptoms or frequent trips to the emergency room with breathing problems, you may want to have them screened. The Clinic is by appointment only. Below is the link to the campus visit schedule. You must register for this screening. Ideally, Parents/Guardians must accompany the student to their appointment. However, if you are not able to attend the clinic with your child, please ask your Campus Health Aide for forms to complete before your student can be seen.

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana State Museum announced Tuesday that the New Orleans Jazz Museum, through a grant from the National Park Foundation, is partnering with the New Orleans Jazz Historical Park to develop a series of virtual field trips that will be distributed to school children nationally. Part of the National Park Foundation’s Open Outdoors for Kids Hybrid Learning Grant Program, the $30,000 grant will be used to create a digital field trip component for the New Orleans Jazz Museum called New Orleans Cultural & Musical Connections: C
