Each year, brands fall into the trap of celebrating Ramadan in a similar way, pushing tired cliches of a glamorous family gathering ready for Iftar or Suhoor.
Breaking away from such tropes this year, Grab Indonesia’s Ramadan ad couldn’t be further from the norm. Set on a space ship, the sci-fi-inspired film sees humans take on aliens. And its proved popular, racking up over a million views on YouTube since the video broke.
The ad starts with an introduction to the crew members – Indro, Iqbaal, Sophia, Kak Seto and Kucing Tapi Robot Tapi Kucing – in the style of Star Trek as they fly through space during Ramadan. The ship is hijacked by stormtrooper-esque aliens in an nod to Star Wars and even the leader is somewhat reminiscent of its iconic baddie Darth Vader.

Grab Indonesia has unveiled a space-themed ad in line with Ramadan. The ad, which runs for over two minutes, features a four-member crew on a spaceship venturing in space during Ramadan. The ship is then hijacked by aliens, who take away all their resources such as food, transport, and groceries. Left in despair after the aliens left the ship empty, one of the crew members then produced a button with the word Grab on it. With a push of the button, all the ship s resources were instantaneously replaced with Grab s various services such as Grab Mart, Grab Food, Grab Express, and Grab s ride-hailing services.

The Makati Medical Center announced on Wednesday that it is now accepting hair donations for cancer patients.
“Make a cancer patient smile by donating your hair at MakatiMed Cancer Center,” read an advisory on the hospital’s Facebook page.
Based on the hospital’s donation guidelines, the donated hair whether curly, wavy, or straight must be a minimum of nine inches long.
The donated hair should be dry and ponytailed and placed in a “zip lock or resealable plastic bag with the donor’s full name, contact number, and email address.”
Rebonded, colored, bleached, permed, or any chemically treated hair will not be accepted, according to MakatiMed.
