Of all the highlights Jacob Melton provided Friday night at Goss Stadium and they were numerous it was an epic bat flip following a towering seventh-inning grand slam that might have been the most memorable.
“Oh, that’s up there,” the Oregon State Beavers sophomore said, when asked where it ranked on his bat flip Hall of Fame. “I think that might be No. 1 to be honest with you.”
The Rivalry Series is presented by Safeway-Albertsons, Spirit Mountain Casino, PacificSource Health Plans, Your Local Toyota Dealers and First Interstate Bank.
Meckler s home run put the Beavers (11-3 overall) up 3-0 after the teams went scoreless through the game s first four frames. Troy Claunch and Garret Forrester each singled to open the fifth, and both were in scoring position after Joe Casey moved them over via sacrifice bunt.
Matthew Gretler drove home the game s first run via a 6-3 groundout, then watched as Meckler hit the first pitch he saw from Oregon starter Brett Walker over the left field fence for the three-run advantage.

Robert Ahlstrom baffled Oregon State Beavers batters over seven shutout innings, outdueling star Kevin Abel to carry the Oregon Ducks to an impressive 7-0 win in the opener of a three-game series.
It was the Ducks’ fifth consecutive victory on the road against a ranked team they swept a four-game series at then-No. 15 UC Santa Barbara last week and it ended a 10-game winning streak for the 16th-ranked Beavers (10-2), who lost for the first time since the season opener on Feb. 19.
