SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday issued following statement regarding Bijbehara gunfight saying that based on a precise Police input about presence of two militants involved in various crime, hiding in a house in village Semthan Bijbehara, a joint operation was launched yesterday on 10/0.
The two terrorists who were killed in an encounter with police and army in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday were given an opportunity to surrender but they indiscriminately fired upon the security forces that led to the gun .
Four militants from Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and al-Badr outfits, including those involved in the killing of an off-duty Territorial Army soldier in Anantnag on Friday, were gunned down on Sunday in two encounters with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, police said. With this, the death toll in the encounters that began on Saturday in Anantnag and Shopian has climbed to five as one militant was killed in the initial exchange of fire. Towseef Ahmad Bhat and Aamir Hussain Ganie, both from Bijbehara and linked to the LeT, were killed at village Semthan in the Bijbehara area of south Kashmir s Anantnag district after they refused to surrender and fired indiscriminately on a search party, the police said.

Srinagar, Apr 11: Five militants including a minor were killed in two separate gun battles in Southern Kashmir today while a 35-year old former SPO was shot dead in Budgam.
Among five, three were killed in Chitragam area of Shopian and two in Semthan, Bijbehara area of Anantnag district. One of the slain militants was identified as 16-year-old who had recently joined militancy.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that three militants were killed in orchards in between Reban, Bandpawa and Chitragam villages of Shopian district today.
He said that a joint operation was launched by Police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF on specific information about the presence of militants in Shopian area.
