Early Opening To Walleye Season

The walleye fishing season opens this weekend. Gord Pyzer is the fishing editor with Outdoors Canada and says with ice out so early this year, the early start to the fishing season is promising. “It could have been not such good fishing with the third Saturday coming so early, but we had ice out much earlier than normal,” states Pyzer. “I think the way things are shaping up the bite will be spectacular.” Pyzer does have some suggestions for the first weekend of the walleye season. “Keeping those smaller ones, letting the bigger ones go.  If you caught a walleye, regardless of the size, that was really plump and full of eggs, that’s a good one to let go and let her continue spawning and keep what appears to be obviously spawned out males.”

How to pick the perfect rod for your angling needs • Outdoor Canada

Picking the right fishing rod for the job at hand plays a critical role in your overall success on the water. To be clear, I’m not talking about the specific make, model or brand you choose, but rather its action and power. Balance those two elements properly, and you’ll stick nearly every fish that hits. ACTION Advertisement The action of a fishing rod refers to where it bends from the tip down to the handle when pressure is applied, such as from the weight of a lure or fish. Imagine your rod as being divided into three equal sections. If the bend is confined to the top section ending at the tip, it’s a fast-action rod. When the curvature extends into the second portion, it’s a moderate action, and when it bends all the way down to the handle, it’s a slow action. Of course, these three divisions can be broken down even further into designations such as extra-fast and moderately slow, but you get the point.

Best Tackle Storage System EDGE FLEX Anglers think nothing about spending $20 or more on a single lure, so an entire tray of baits can represent several hundred dollars of hard-earned money. That’s why I praised Plano’s water-wicking Edge boxes last year. Well, the new Edge Flex boxes are even better, with many tightly spaced moveable dividers for customizing each tray. Built tough, with premium hinges and latches, they offer TLC for your pricey lures.
