The opening of the walleye season in northwestern Ontario is Saturday, the earliest its been in eight years.
Gord Pyzer is the fishing editor with Outdoors Canada and says with the ice out so early this year, the quick start to the season is promising.
Pyzer says, “I think the way things are shaping up, the bite will be spectacular!”
He does have some suggestions for the first weekend.
“Keeping those smaller ones, letting the bigger ones go. If you caught a walleye, regardless of the size, that was really plump and full of eggs, that’s a good one to let go and let her continue spawning and keep what appears to be obviously spawned out males.”
