7:20 am, Apr. 16, 2021 A selfish shooter Thumbs Down: Last week, someone with a BB or pellet gun thought it would be cool to go around shooting at the windows of vehicles, homes and businesses in Alexandria. Sixteen incidents were reported to the police department. One of the homes that was hit was Mat Hennen’s. The shooter left a bunch of bullet holes in his big living room window – in a direct line with a place where his dog and kids often play. Fortunately, no one was injured but it left Hennen, and other property owners, feeling frustrated and angry. “What bothers me,” Hennen said, “is that it took the shooter five seconds and about $2 worth of ammunition and it’ll cost me a couple thousand dollars for the window… If someone wants to go and shoot some place, I have a field to show him.” Hennen hopes that someone with more information about the shootings will come forward and contact police at 320-763-6631. SCRPT thanks volunteers who help Hunt County seniors

She was presented the award by Trina Sanders Coldiron, the community liaison for SCRPT. The Senior Center Resources and Public Transit, SCRPT, welcomed the spring season in style Thursday, by hosting a Tea and Fashion Show at the Landmark on Lee Street. Not only was the event a chance for those attending to catch models showing off styles provided by Greenville Boutique and Gifts, it also provided an opportunity for the agency to remind the public of the services it provides and to say thank you to some of its most valuable volunteers.

East Cobb business and civic leader Johnny Johnson dies

Johnson was a former recipient of the honor. (ECN file). Johnny Johnson, the owner of a jewelry store in East Cobb, a former member of the Cobb Board of Education and a longtime community leader, died on Wednesday. The East Cobb-based Kiwanis Club of Marietta Golden K said that Johnson, who turned 75 in December, “Johnny was a great Kiwanian and leaves a legacy of passion and service that is rare but sets a high standard which we should all strive to emulate.”

Former Alexandria educator remains dedicated to DECA

Holm recently donated $25,000 to the Alexandria DECA Foundation. (Contributed) Ellsworth Holm, 88, started his career sitting in an office for a corporate entity in the Twin Cities. But that wasn’t the lifestyle he wanted. “I had the best job in the country,” Holm said. “When I changed to working in the office, I was kinda bored. But when I got into teaching, that was my field.” Holm returned to college and shifted gears to pursue a degree in education so that he could spend the last 30 years of his professional career teaching business in Alexandria. He’s continued to stay involved since retiring in the 1990s and recently donated $25,000 to the Distributive Education Clubs of America, or DECA, Foundation.
