Ricketts Glen State Park has closed its famous Falls Trail system for the season, the park announced today.
Only “experienced ice climbers and ice hikers may still access the trail as long as they have the required minimum safety gear (ice crampons, ice axe, rope) and they sign or call in/out with the park office.”
A major attraction to hikers throughout the year, the 7.2-miles Falls Trail leads hikers past 21 waterfalls ranging from 11 to 84 feet in height.
“The scenery is well worth the effort; however, the terrain is rocky, can be slippery, and descends steeply on both the Ganoga and Glen Leigh sides,” the park notes on its website.”
