Brazen dumpers leave waste next to No Fly-tipping sign in Hyndburn

The latest incident took place on Elton Road and Belthorn Road in Belthorn at the weekend. The area has been a magnet for fly-tippers for years but now people are calling for permanent action. Cllr Glen Harrison, who represents the St Oswalds ward, said: There is a constant stream of fly tipping meaning we need to find a long term solution. Fly tippers could not care less about the environment and the threat of fines. To tip rubbish blatantly right in front of a sign telling them about prosecutions shows how brazen these people are. I sincerely hope that they are caught and dealt with in the harshest possible way.

MP cancels on-street surgery after coronavirus concerns

A row has started over Hyndburn’s MP arranging face-to-face street surgeries, amid claims they could spread coronavirus. Sara Britcliffe had planned the 30-minute surgery on Monday alongside her father Peter, a Lancashire County Councillor, as part of a campaign to introduce speed reduction measures on Blackburn Road, Knuzden. In a letter to constituents dated December 18, the Conservative MP invited residents to talk to her and her father on the corner of Richmond Crescent and Windsor Road. However, the surgery has since been cancelled and the event will now take place over Zoom. Labour officials have slammed the “cavalier” move, claiming it could pose an unnecessary risk.
