After Wednesday s storms brought some damage across the South, more severe weather is expected to pass through Mississippi Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.
The storms Wednesday produced strong winds throughout the state. Wind speeds reached 54 mph at the airport near Greenville and 55 mph in Cleveland, according to meteorologist Latrice Maxie with the National Weather Service s Jackson office.
Strong winds downed a few power lines and trees in Glen Allan, but no other reports of damage in Mississippi had been sent in Thursday morning, Maxie said, although there had been reports of damage in Louisiana.
The national Storm Prediction Center is projecting that the storm system Friday afternoon will impact parts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas.

Galen Tyrone Gazaway, 77, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Community Springs Heath Care facility, El Dorado Springs, Mo.
Galen was born to Frances P. (Portwood) and Clifford Gazaway in Croweburg, Kan., on July 11, 1943.
After graduating from Bronaugh (Mo.) High School in 1961, Galen worked various jobs in Kansas City, and Cordova, Ill., eventually moving back to Bronaugh. Shortly thereafter, he began working for Crane Plumbing in several different capacities, before becoming a fitter/packer. He was known company wide for his toilet tank packing speed! He retired after an injury, putting in 30 years and 14 days.

Inching toward completion, traffic calming measures in the Glen Allan neighbourhood have at least come in under budget.
There is, however, one project remaining to finish in the Glen Allan traffic calming project. Estimated to cost $1.75-million in 2015 when the initiative was launched by the county, a project update during the Jan. 26 Priorities Committee outlined the price tag will be less than $1.5 million, even with the final piece to complete.

The area had a bad rep when it came to motorists who were shortcutting through the neighbourhood, as well as speeding, but with the installation of speed bumps and reducing the speed limit to 40 km/h, the Transportation, Planning and Engineering (TPE) told council the situation has improved and drivers are now mainly self-governing.

COVID-19 continues to maintain its hold on Strathcona County with the area sitting at 464 active cases reported Wednesday, Dec. 10.
COVID19Stats.Alberta.ca, the geospatial AHS case-tracking site, showed there were 353 active cases in Sherwood Park and 111 in the rural county.

In Sherwood Park, there have been 1,101 cases of COVID-19 recorded since the start of the pandemic, with 739 of those listed as recovered now, which is an increase of 96 recoveries since Monday, Dec. 7. There have also been nine deaths recorded in Sherwood Park due to the novel coronavirus but few details have been released. The lastest two deaths were reported over the weekend and on Monday.
