EVER wondered where the biggest hotspots for litter is in Winsford? Well, we asked one of the members of the Winsford Litter Project – a group of volunteers who helped keep the area clean – to lend us a hand in finding out where the notable points for littering are. “There are many, many hotspots around Winsford with repeated picks needed weekly or even more frequently to keep on top of things,” said Geraint James Emes, a member of the group since the first lockdown.
The old High Street “The old High Street is often poor, together with the area around the roundabout. This area is picked at least twice a week by Pauline and Colin. Fly-tipping is not uncommon.”
LITTLE litter pickers are following in the footsteps of famous children s fictional TV characters. Inspired by Uncle Bulgaria and his friends who tidy up after humans on Wimbledon Common, Little Wombles of Winsford have vowed to pick up rubbish dumped on the ground. The idea is the brainchild of Steve Edwards who launched Winsford Litter Project a year ago to restore pride in the town. Our group is going from strength to strength, said Steve, who lives near The Flashes. We now have more than 460 members. So many kids go out litter picking with their parents, I thought it would be good for them to have t heir own group.

The figures are lower across Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich, Knutsford and Wilmslow now than they were earlier in 2021. But there are some communities where infection rates have risen in recent days – and many areas still have an infection rate above the current English average of 100.4 per 100,000 people. This map shows where Covid-19 infections are most prevalent in the area, with places shaded dark blue seeing higher rates of infection, compared to light green areas.
