Anniversary of Edenville, Sanford Dam Failures Serves as a Reminder to Review Insurance Coverage

(LANSING, MICH) This week as the state observes the anniversary of the failures of the Edenville and Sanford Dams in Midland and Gladwin Counties, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is reminding consumers to understand their flood risk and protect their property with flood insurance.
“Many Michiganders do not know that most homeowners, renters, and business insurance policies do not cover flood damage, so we are urging all Michiganders to review their insurance to confirm that they are protected in the event of a flood especially in light of last year’s tragedy,” said

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO AM/FM) – Tuesday, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich), Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, announced a new $3,429,770 investment to improve water quality and fishing habitats in Ottawa County.
Senator Stabenow says the funding will be matched by private investments, and that this partnership is one of three projects in Michigan with similar investments.
Senator Stabenow said that this partnership was made possible by the Farm Bill’s Regional Conservation Partnership Program, authored by Stabenow.
