Students at the Academy for Integrated Arts in Kansas City, Missouri, opened their school day with a sweet surprise. On Tuesday, students attended a book fair held at their school and were able to pick out new books to add to their growing home libraries.
What better way to kick off the New Year than to focus on the importance of childhood literacy. If you want to make a positive impact on a young person’s life, just give them a good book.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â Through a partnership with the charitable arm of our parent company â the Scripps Howard Foundation â and Scholastic Book Fairs, FOX 17 raised and gave away over 2,400 books to first- and second-graders in the Grand Rapids Public School System. They were dropped off on Friday.
Now in its fourth year, the âGive a Child a Bookâ campaign raised 165,000 books in 2020 alone, all collected by Scripps stations across the country.
âI love that it brings books into the lives of young people and young children,â said Dr. Leadriane Roby, superintendent at GRPS. âWeâre investing in our young people to say literacy is important and that we want to encourage and invite our young people to fall in love with reading.â

LAFAYETTE, La. â In the fall, KATC asked you to give our Give a Child A Book campaign, and you did. Now, 457 students at Alice Boucher Elementary School in Lafayette now have brand new books.
The campaign ended Wednesday with thousands of books in the hands of children excited about the adventures on each page.
Bayleigh Marks and Kiya Zeno and the rest of the more than 400 Alice Boucher Elementary students are ready for the adventures inside the books gifted to them through the Give a Child a Book Campaign.
