faces, then you probably know that there is an outrage industrial complex proliferating online. it s this feedback loop between experience. and it s used as an excuse to increase distrust and vision. the thing is though, a lot of it is fake, all ginned up. it was brought home by a washington post story reported by drew hartwell about a prominent social media account that purported to be a self styled democratic activist. under the name erika marsh, the account went viral by carving out extreme positions on the issues of the day. the account is now suspended, but well active, get this, one tweet published after the supreme court affirmative action decision, that tweet was viewed 27 million times, providing plenty of opportunities for i told you so outrage and virtual signaling from folks like congressman matt gaetz. now, for an allegedly liberal accounts, it s audience seemed to primarily beat people on the right looking for confirmation bias. and according to the accounts biography, th
but this is the next big lie, that january 6th didn t happen. it wasn t violence. it was fabricated, ginned up, fabricated by the government, people are political prisoners now. i want to point a couple of things out. first of all, it is dangerous it could lead to yet another attack, but there is also a macro strategy here, which is, you know, we have a former president who is under investigation for his role in inciting the very violence that happened on january 6th. and what fox news seems to be implying is any prosecution of a former president or high ranking official for that kind of violence is bogus because that never happened. so what we re seeing here in selective editing is not just a calm before the storm, but a calm minus the storm. congressman dan goldman had a great quote on this, which was if you videotaped the four planes hijacked on 11
in politics. the other is right-wing nut jobs and i want to focus on that because this goes to the toxic culture which is part of what bedevils our democracy. there s this politico piece talking about what happened at the nra convention. conspiracy theories abound. why d it happen three days ago? are there forces out there somehow that are finding troubled people and nurturing them, developing them, pushing into committing these shootings? some woman who says that a shooter could have walked in there with a baseball bat and killed as many kids. all this. like the ginned up, they re going to take our guns away, exactly the thing that you talked about. what s the role we point to right-wing media as being problematic on a variety of levels. how much is right-wing media feeding these particular conspiracy theories related to guns and is there anything that you imagine that s going to change that? because it seems to me that is another element of this that if that part of the culture doe
