Super Mario 3D World + Bowserâs Fury showcases the weird and experimental side of Nintendo that doesnât get seen enough in their first-party games. Instead of mailing in another âDeluxeâ edition of an underplayed title from the WiiU catalog, the developer went the extra mile by attaching an innovative offshoot to the core 2013 game that subverts the Mario formula. If you, like me, never played
3D World, youâre in for a Toad-ally awesome gaming experience that combines the best of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional games, with the added bonus of Bowserâs Fury as an appetizing add-on.
Originally released in 2013 on the Wii U game console,
Super Mario 3D World was praised for being a joy to play both in single player and with friends. Now over seven years later the 2021 remaster brings new life to the game with a cat-tastic addition. This time not only is the original
Super Mario 3D World back, but it also comes with
Bowser’s Fury, a bite-sized adventure full of feline fun.
Mario fans get two games in one here: a 3D open-world platformer remastered to the Nintendo Switch and a new mini, open-world adventure on a cat filled island with a monster-sized Bowser.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser s Fury Review: A Superior Port
One of the most common complaints in the Nintendo Switch era is that Wii U games like
Donkey Kong Country:
Tropical Freeze and
Mario Kart 8 have been re-released at full price without any significant additions from their original versions.
Super
Mario 3D World + Bowser s Fury is very much the exception to that rule by offering one of the finest games available on Wii U alongside an impressive new adventure. Mario fans will find that the combination is well worth the $60 asking price regardless of whether or not they played
Super Mario 3D World when it released back in 2013.

I thought I knew what I was getting into with
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. Nintendo has now released remasters of basically all of the Wii U’s most acclaimed games, polishing them up with only a few additions sprinkled here and there. For people who haven’t played these games before, it’s nice to get to experience some overlooked classics. But for those of us who owned the Wii U, there’s usually not a great deal of value outside of the better visuals and performance. This new Switch remaster is a pleasant surprise, then, as its new Bowser’s Fury add-on is almost a brand new mainline Mario game in its own right.
