Additional Chief Secretary Manu Shrivastava said, “It is for the first time that Madhya Pradesh government has secured GI tag on its own. All the earlier GI tags for products from the state were secured through Union government and private organisations.”
Kerala has topped the list of states in the country with most number of products securing the Geographical Indication (GI) tag in financial year 2022-23, a data shared by the GI Registry said on Wednesday.
The famous Banarasi paan (betel leaf), langda aam (mango), were among two items from Varanasi which were granted the GI certification on March 31 by the GI Registry, Chennai. Apart from these, 10 items from UP were also given the GI tag. This is in line with Yogi Adityanath-led UP govt.’s efforts to protect the indigenous art, food items and other products of the state.
