More than a week after he was allegedly abducted from Chennai for ransom, a leading seaman of
Indian Navy was burnt alive in a forest of
Palghar district, police said on Saturday.
Sailor Suraj Kumar Dubey, 26, who hailed from Ranchi, was posted at INS Agrani near
Coimbatore. He was returning to his unit after finishing his leave when he was abducted from outside Chennai airport, police said.

Palghar police said, “Dube hailed from Ranchi and had reached Chennai on January 30 by a flight after finishing his leave. At around 9 pm, three men threatened him with a revolver and snatched his cellphone. He was put in a white SUV and his abductors demanded Rs 10 lakh as ransom. He was kept in Chennai for three days. On February 5, he was brought to Devji Vaijalpada near Gholwad in Palghar where he was set afire. Sub divisional police officer Dhanaji Nalawade is probing the case.”

A 26-year-old Navy sailor sustained grievous injuries after he was set on fire by his kidnappers in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, PTI reported on Saturday. Suraj Kumar Dubey later died at a Mumbai hospital.
Dubey, who belonged to Jharkhand, had been posted at the INS Agrani training institute near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. He was allegedly kidnapped by three men at gunpoint outside the Chennai airport on January 30 when he was returning from a vacation. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from Dubey. They also took away his phone.

In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old Navy sailor who had been abducted in Chennai on January 30 was set on fire by the kidnappers in jungles of Maharashtra s Palghar district and he died of injuries, the police said on Saturday. The deceased identified as Suraj Kumar Dubey, died while he was being shifted to hospital in Mumbai on Friday.
Dubey, who hailed from Ranchi, was posted at INS Agrani near Coimbatore, said Palghar district police spokesperson Sachin Navadkar. As per the preliminary information, when he was returning from vacation on January 30, three men abducted him at gun point outside Chennai Airport around 9 pm and demanded ransom of Rs 10 lakh.

MUMBAI: A 26-year-old naval sailor who went missing while on his way to his Coimbatore base after a holiday at his village in Jharkhand, was found in a jungle in Palghar on Friday morning with 90% burn injuries. He succumbed to the injuries the same night at Sion Hospital.
In his dying declaration to the Gholvad police, Leading Seaman Surajkumar Dubey said he was abducted by 3 unknown men outside Chennai airport at 11pm on January 30 in a white SUV, said API Sarjerao Kumbhar. The armed men allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from him and kept him captive for three days at an unknown place in Chennai. When he still refused to pay up, they brought him by road to Vaiji-Veljipada jungle in Gholvad, Palghar, and set him ablaze with petrol on Friday.
