While the price of onions has increased by ₹3 per kg to ₹45 on average, the number of trucks bringing in potatoes has declined to 50 from 115, said Rajendra Sharma, a vegetable trader from Azadpur Mandi. The supply of fruits such as bananas and apples has also dwindled, pushing up prices 5-10% in the wholesale market, said traders. Prices of other vegetables such as okra, cauliflower and brinjal have also increased.
Apart from Delhi, onion prices have also increased in Karnataka and Maharashtra. Onion was available at Rs 65 to 70 per kg in Yesvantpur APMC of Bengaluru.
