She said: “I’ve no doubt many trainers treat their dogs well, and feel information we now know about the industry has unfairly discredited some trainers. But none of that can justify what people do have a problem with, which is the State propping up an industry that kills 6,000 dogs a year. Former owners and trainers have not only highlighted issues with the industry, but have expressed no confidence in it changing.
Deputy Cairns said many sponsors, companies and members of the public have distanced themselves from greyhound racing.

THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE of Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) told government officials that further cuts to expenditure – including job cuts – would be brought in unless the group was given more State funding.
A week before Budget 2021 was announced, GRI’s Gerard Dollard met with Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue seeking to secure more funding for the organisation.
SIS adds extension to GRI partnership Share
Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) tracks after the duo added a five-year extension to their partnership.
Through the extended agreement, SIS will offer coverage from the tracks across its retail and online portfolio, including its 24/7 Live Betting channels.
Paul Witten, Commercial Director at SIS, said: “We’re thrilled to be extending our partnership with GRI and to be distributing live pictures and data from a wide range of first-class Irish greyhound tracks over the next five years.
“We have enjoyed a very close working relationship together up to now and this new agreement will enable us to continue to promote Irish greyhound racing to our customers, while also offering them a greater number of new betting opportunities in the process.”
SIS extends with Greyhound Racing Ireland

Multi-channel live betting services supplier Sports Information Services (SIS) has signed a five-year extension to its partnership with Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI).
Under the deal, SIS’s customers around the world will continue to have weekly access to competitive greyhound racing from tracks throughout Ireland.
GRI’s tracks will feature more than 400 times a year across SIS’s services during the course of the extended deal.
SIS will distribute coverage across its retail and online services, including the 24/7 Live Betting Channels end-to-end solution that provides operators with short-form content throughout the day, with a betting event every three minutes.
