SB 443, recently introduced by Senator Ben Watson and Representative Jesse Petrea will allow any municipality in Georgia, like Tybee Island, to sue to recover damages from promoters of unsanctioned or unpermitted events.
Digital flyers of the event have made the rounds on social media.
Destinee Lowe, spokeswoman for the Orange Crush Festival, said in an email, “Any ‘Orange Crush’ events that are not held in Jax beach June 18-20 are NOT LEGITIMATE and do not come from the brand.”
“At the moment we are trying to locate exactly who is doing it, as well. They are using our logos and brands and trademarks and copyrights illegally,” said Lowe.
According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, “Orange Crush Festival” is trademarked as goods and services and belongs to George Ransom Turner III, also known as George Mikey, who has organized the event in the past.
