American artifacts, Beverly Brannan tells the stories about the collection and photographers. Beverly we are in the center vault of the prints and photographs division of the library of congress. The library has a collection of color photographs from the 1930s and 1940s. They started as an experiment with color film. Kodak was just putting its color film in the market. Sent it out to photographers at institutions to give it a try, to see if they could create a market for it. The pictures were free. So they were appealing to newspapers, magazines, publishing agencies, book publishers. I was familiar already with the black and white photographs. There are about 171,000 Farm Security administration and office of war information blackandwhite photographs. And i had been working with those for a few years. George my dad worked for the railroad and we originally came from North Carolina so i grew up in North Carolina. I have been in two states mostly. How many schools have you went to . Its an amazing story. You know, theres another story that i didnt miss that i feel obligated to tell it. When i was wounded i was going down to the cp and i was taking this socalled prisoner and i just pushed him off the bank. He probably survived. I went down to the dispensary and they left me there and the dispensary that night was overrun by north koreans. I couldnt find my weapon. I found someone had left two 30 round clips back to back. The koreans were running through the courtyards, a couple miles north of chinju, in a place by a river, i can remember the route cropping to know exactly where that is.
