Color photographs from the 1930s and 1940s. They started as an experiment with color film. Kodak was just putting its color film on the market. Sent it out to photographers at institutions to give it a try, to see if they could create a market for it. The pictures were free. So they were appealing to newspapers, magazines, publishing agencies, book publishers. That kind of thing. I was familiar already with the black and white photographs. There are about 171,000 Farm Security administration and office of war information blackandwhite photographs. And i had been working with those for a few years. There was not much emphasis placed on the color transparencies, because they were hard to handle. They were unique items. Theres only one of each. At the time, in the 1970s, it was really difficult to make a copy. It was very expensive to make a photograph. You had to make another print from the color transparency. People did not want to pay that extra money. So, these just sat on a shelf for

Images of the buildings and noticeably images of firefighters because they were the main focus of the film. And then last week we started talking about the 9 11 commission report. That is, how was the event investigated . And were going to continue on with that on thursday this week. What we havent looked at and what you might think is in some ways not appropriate to look at are the dead. Museum director, gives us a tour showcasing the forts history, through the colonial area to its completion in 1834. And its role in the civil war. Welcome to fort mineral, located here on the very Pleasant Place we call Point Comfort, actually we call it old Point Comfort, and thats been that way for a long long time. It was here that over 400 years ago, 400 years of history have occurred. Some would say even thousands of years. Right outside the museum, happily named because youre actually the case made is nothing more than a vault inside of fort wash. Youre actually unsolved fort wall kind of unique for museums in this day and time. Were gonna walk you through the case make museum, and talk about the very interesting history that occurs here.
