Washington, DC - An Ohio man was sentenced Monday to 33 months in prison for conspiring to steal exosome-related trade secrets concerning the research, identification and treatment of a range of pediatric medical conditions.
Yu Zhou, 51, of Dublin, Ohio, pleaded guilty in December 2020 to stealing scientific trade secrets related to exosomes and exosome isolation from Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Research Institute for his own personal financial gain. Zhou also conspired to commit wire fraud.

Yu Zhou, a former medical researcher at Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio, was sentenced to serve 33 months in federal prison for conspiring to steal the institute s exosome-related trade secrets concerning the research, identification and treatment of a range of pediatric medical conditions, according to the Department of Justice. Zhou, who also was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, pleaded guilty to all the charges in December, prosecutors say.

Chinese National Gets 33 Months For Lab Trade Secret Theft
Law360 (April 19, 2021, 9:30 PM EDT) A Chinese national was sentenced in Ohio federal court Monday to 33 months in prison for conspiring to steal trade secrets from a children s hospital where he worked as a researcher along with his wife, who was previously sentenced to 30 months.
Yu Zhou and his wife, co-conspirator Li Chen, must also forfeit $1.45 million, 500,000 shares of common stock of Avalon GloboCare Corp. and 400 shares of common stock of GenExosome Technologies Inc. and pay $2.6 million in restitution, according to the U.S. Attorney s Office for the Southern District of Ohio.
