The HUD investigation into allegations that employees of the Geneva Housing Authority discriminated against a local resident has been closed.
HUD’s ruling indicated that the complaint was not filed within the required time frame.
Robinson alleged that she was discriminated against on the basis of race. Several employees were named in the complaint including Housing Authority director Andy Tyman. It claimed that she was subject to different terms and conditions in service, and that various housing opportunities were not made available to her, and that landlords were coerced to not rent to her.

The Geneva Housing Authority says the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s regional office will investigation the allegations of discriminatory behavior by a GHA employee.
Section 8 housing assistance recipients Melinda Robinson, Breonna Spann and Shaquala Johnson filed formal complaints with the Authority in November, which was first reported by the Finger Lakes Times. The employee is accused of making racial and demeaning comments toward them while discussing issues related to their vouchers.

People from across the Finger Lakes region of New York came to Geneva, New York on the snowy afternoon of Jan 30 to demand housing justice, safe and secure housing, and an end to racism and disrespect of Black women from the Geneva Housing Authority.
People showed up in response to recent news reports that a GHA employee had victimized three women by discriminating against them to the point of having their Section 8 housing threatened. Since the initial reports, more women have come forward and an internal and external investigation of the GHA has been undertaken. Together with the Geneva Women’s Assembly and the People’s Peaceful Protest, the Geneva Party for Socialism and Liberation organized a rally to connect the demand for safe and secure housing with the demand to cancel rents and mortgages in a movement for housing justice.
