The Geneva Housing Authority says the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s regional office will investigation the allegations of discriminatory behavior by a GHA employee. Section 8 housing assistance recipients Melinda Robinson, Breonna Spann and Shaquala Johnson filed formal complaints with the Authority in November, which was first reported by the Finger Lakes Times. The employee is accused of making racial and demeaning comments toward them while discussing issues related to their vouchers.

The Geneva Housing Authority wants to see the state and federal agencies get involved in investigating complaints that have been filed against its employees in recent weeks. Executive Director Andy Tyman has requested a federal agency to investigate allegations of discriminatory and racist behavior by a GHA employee toward several Section 8 housing voucher recipients, according to the Finger Lakes Times. He asked the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Buffalo to conduct the investigation.
